NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi government launched a new anti-pollution โ€˜Green War Roomโ€™ on Tuesday to monitor and implement the โ€˜Winter Action Planโ€™ on a 24/7 basis as winter approaches the national capital.

Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that the Green War Room will have a team of 17 members, including environmental scientist Dr. Nandita Moitra, who has been appointed as the in-charge.

Rai also highlighted the governmentโ€™s efforts to reduce pollution in the capital city, stating that PM10 and PM2.5 levels have fallen by 30% in the last eight years despite an increasing population.

He informed that 70,684 complaints were received on the Green Delhi App, of which 90% have been resolved to date. He added that most of the complaints are registered against the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Rai also announced the launch of an โ€˜Anti-Dustโ€™ campaign in Delhi from October 5. He urged the public to cooperate in the fight against pollution by downloading the Green Delhi App and reporting instances of dust pollution.

โ€œStrict action will be taken against construction sites that do not comply with dust pollution-related regulations,โ€ he said.

Rai also stated that the Centre for Science and Environment has analyzed the sources of pollution in Delhi and found that internal sources account for 31% of pollution, while external sources from surrounding states contribute 69%. This is why the Green War Room has been asked to be on its toes, he said.
