Accused Aftab Ameen Poonawala refused to marry his girlfriend Shraddha Walker, leading frequent quarrels between them.

An oxidised silver ring that Shraddha Walker was wearing till her murder was later gifted by her killer boyfriend Aaftab Poonawalla to his new girlfriend who would visit him when her body parts were still kept in their Delhi apartment, as per Delhi Police.

According to a chargesheet filed in a local court, the police mentioned in detail the remorse Aaftab displayed after murdering Shraddha, his girlfriend from Mumbai.

The chargesheet said that Aaftab kept Shraddha’s body parts in his refrigerator as he partied with his new girlfriend in the same apartment where he chopped her body into 35 pieces after killing her in May last year.

He would hide Shraddha’s body parts kept in his refrigerator in the kitchen whenever his new girlfriend – a psychologist – would visit his apartment in Delhi’s Chattarpur.

Shraddha’s body parts were kept in Aaftab’s rented flat for more than three months which he was dumping one by one at more than a dozen of places in South Delhi, said the police.

Investigators have recovered an “oxidised silver flower ring” from Aaftab’s new girlfriend, who has given a statement to the police.

According to the police, Aaftab bought two rings online for ₹2700 on August 5, 2021 – one for Shraddha and another for his sister.

Aaftab came in contact with the psychologist through the dating application Bumble on May 24, 2022 – just a week after he murdered Shraddha in cold blood. Soon they became friends and she visited his flat for the first time on June 25, 2022, said the chargesheet.

Whenever she visited Aaftab at his flat in Chattarpur, he would clean the refrigerator and put the body parts of Shraddha on the upper shelf; and at times, on the lower shelf of the kitchen, it said.

Later, Aaftab gifted his new girlfriend the silver ring that he had removed from Shraddha’s finger after killing her. The ring was “correctly identified” by two common friends of Shraddha and Aaftab, said the chargesheet.

Shraddha and Aatab lived together in the apartment after shifting to Delhi from Mumbai. Following a heated argument, Aaftab Amin Poonawalla strangled her to death on May 18, 2022. The matter came to the fore after at least six months when her father lodged a missing person FIR with the police.

The police investigation has revealed that the couple would often fight which ended in physical assaults by Aaftab.
