AR Rahman lights up International Solar Fest in Delhi

NEW DELHI: The first day of the two-day International Solar Fest (6-7 September) concluded with a musical extravaganza headlined by music maestro A.R. Rahman at Bharat Mandapam.

 

The concert, attended by thousands of people, featured Rahman performing some of his iconic Tamil and Hindi hits, alongside surprise performances and a star-studded ensemble. Dressed in a sleek black coat, Rahman took the stage with his band after the curtains dropped, starting the show with the Oscar-winning ‘Jai Ho’ from ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ (2008). The excitement grew when Rahman’s son, A.R. Ameen, performed ‘Enna Sona’ from the movie ‘Ok Janu’ (2017) along with Shweta Mohan.

AR Rahman performed his last concert in Singapore and the grand event was held in the presence of former Singapore president Halimah Yacob and her husband, who were part of the enraptured audience.

 

Rahman’s ensemble included acclaimed singers Shweta Mohan, Mano, Nakul Abhyankar, Hriday Gattani, and Rashid Ali. One standout moment was when Hriday Gattani and Shakthisree Gopalan performed Akh Main Maarunga Deewana, getting everyone on their feet and grooving. The electric performance, complemented by background dancers, had the crowd enthralled.

 

 

Shweta Mohan’s soulful renditions of ‘Jiya Jale’ and ‘Dil Se title track’ from ‘Dil Se’ (1998) and ‘Kehna Hi Kya’ from ‘Bombay’ (1995) were especially moving, showcasing her vocal mastery and captivating the audience.

Special guests Mohit Chauhan and Rakshita Suresh further elevated the night with their performances. Suresh’s rendition of ‘Minsara Poove’ from ‘Padayappa’ (1999) was another memorable highlight.

 

 

Throughout the three-hour concert, Rahman wove together his timeless classics and more recent hits. For Bollywood fans, ‘Kun Faya Kun’ from ‘Rockstar’ (2011) and ‘Agar Tum Saath Ho’ from ‘Tamasha’ (2015) were among the most requested and well-received. The upbeat Jumbalaka from En Swasa Kaatre (1999) also had the crowd roaring and dancing.

 

With his signature humility, Rahman let his music do the talking. The audience left awestruck, having experienced the magic of his three-decade-long journey in music.
