NEW DELHI: BSP MP Danish Ali has raised questions about the Ethics Committee’s report on the cash-for-query case which ‘comments on his objections during the meeting’. An MP from Amroha, Danish took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his disappointment with the report.

In the tweet he wrote, “Lok Sabha Ethics panel, while examining cash-for-query allegations, has gone beyond its remit to comment on my objections during the meeting. It seems by targeting me a message is being sent that no member should speak out against the ruling party. This amounts to throttling the opposition’s voice.”

On September 21, BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri had used offensive language in the Parliament towards Ali, referring to him as a ‘Katwa’ (circumcised), ‘Bhadwa’ (pimp), and ‘mullah atankwadi’ (Muslim terrorist).

In the tweet, he also attached a letter that he penned to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in which he shared his grievances about the incident. “I have noticed that a recent report by the ethics committee named “cash-for-query” contains some shocking and completely unwarranted facts about me. I would like to draw your kind attention to the fact that there is a full paragraph in the report which is purportedly referring to my conduct during the meetings of the said Committee,” he said.

Stating that it is beyond the jurisdiction of the Chairman of the Committee to have inserted that offending paragraph, he wrote, “As a matter of fact and in law that it is completely beyond the jurisdiction of the Hon’ble Chairman of the Committee to have inserted that offending paragraph. As per the rules, the Committee can examine as per the following: Rule-316B (a) examines every complaint related to unethical conduct of a member of Lok Sabha referred to it by the Speaker and makes such recommendations as it may deem fit.

“As per the rules and regulations the Chairman of the Committee of Ethics is bound to examine the issue referred to it and after prima facie examining the issue recommend the same for a detailed examination, only if the facts so warrant.”

He asked the Speaker to have the paragraph about him removed from the report stating that ‘the Chairman of the committee is not empowered to mention in a committee report about any individual member or his conduct or the opinion expressed by the member/members in the committee meeting’.
