NEW DELHI: The atmosphere in Madhya Pradesh is charged with the state eagerly awaiting the declaration of election results. The fate of the state will be decided on December 3. The New Indian’s Executive Editor, Rohan Dua, spoke to Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia about Priyanka Gandhi’s disparaging remarks towards Scindia and his response to them.

Here is the excerpt from the interview between TNI’s Executive Editor Rohan Dua and Jyotiraditya Scindia:

Rohan: Even considering Priyanka Gandhi’s recent remarks, which sparked controversy, Assam Chief Minister Hemanta Biswa Sarma responded strongly, criticising her derogatory comments about the Prime Minister and making inappropriate remarks about your personality, including height. As someone of a similar height, around 5’7″, I personally find comments on someone’s physical attributes condescending and patronising. Did you also perceive the tone as condescending and patronising in making these disparaging remarks?

Scindia: “I just feel it speaks to one’s character. And that’s fine. I mean, you deal with all kinds of people in life. But that just speaks to one’s character and the very fact that she cast aspersions on my family’s illustrious, if I use that term, is straight defending my motherland. I find that very ironic for the fact that my father served that political party till his dying day.

“And for all those years that he served the party, no Congressy ever thought of that. So, it’s fine. It’s powerful. Of course, it speaks to a character. I always try to maintain a certain level of discourse in politics. I believe it’s important not to get personal. I believe it’s important to maintain a certain standard in politics. But if others choose not to do so, that is their prerogative.”
