NEW DELHI: Pakistanโs Caretaker Foreign Minister, Jalil Abbas Jilani, inaugurated the โASEAN Cornerโ at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) on Monday.
The inauguration of the โASEAN Cornerโ and the subsequent roundtable discussion points to a growing commitment from Pakistan towards fostering closer ties with ASEAN states. Meanwhile, he also tires a strip off India for its role in managing SAARC.
Foreign Minister Jilaniโs emphasised on an international order based on principles like peaceful coexistence and amicable dispute resolution resonates with Indiaโs aspirations for a peaceful and cooperative regional environment. The mention of shared challenges such as climate change and terrorism underscores the common issues that all nations in the region must address collectively.

While the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) has faced challenges due to regional politics, particularly with India, it is worth acknowledging the potential of such regional forums to promote cooperation and address shared concerns.
India agrees with the notion that geopolitical constructs should align with the unique geographical, historical, and cultural realities of the regions spanning the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Avoiding bloc politics and focusing on regional cooperation is in line with Indiaโs commitment to regional stability and progress.
