Mahua Moitra's advocate withdrew from her defamation suit against Nishikant Dubey for contacting Jai Anant Dehadrai as a mediator

KOLKATA: The Delhi High Court witnessed a lot of drama during the proceedings of TMC MP Mahua Moitra’s defamation suit against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Friday. As per the latest development in this case, the court said Moitra’s lawyer Gopal Sankarnarayan is not eligible to appear in this case, “as counsel for the plaintiff” because he acted as a mediator.

While the proceedings were underway in the courtroom, Supreme Court lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai entered and informed the court that Sankarnarayan had contacted him, requesting the withdrawal of the CBI complaint.

Dehadrai said, “The senior advocate and asked me to withdraw the CBI complaint and in return, Henry (dog) will be given back to me.”

The court promptly inquired about the purpose of his presence, asking if he was acting as a mediator.

Moitra, meanwhile, took to microblogging site X and wrote, “I welcome answering questions to CBI & Ethics Committee (which has absolute majority of BJP members) if & when they call me. I have neither time nor interest to feed an Adani-directed media circus trial or answer BJP trolls. I am enjoying Durga Puja in Nadia. Shubho Sashthi.”

Moitra on her social media handle released a statement stating, “The PMO held a proverbial gun to Darshan (Hiranandani) and his father’s heads and gave them 20 minutes to sign this letter sent to them. They were threatened with a total shutdown of all their businesses.”

As the twists and turns surrounding the Moitra-Dubey allegations case persist, the upcoming hearing for this matter is scheduled for October 31.
