The new chapter aims to instil essential values of patriotism, dedication to duty, and courage
NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education have collaboratively introduced a new chapter titled “A Homage to our Brave Soldiers” in the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) curriculum for Class VII, effective from this academic year.
The primary objective of this initiative is to instil essential values of patriotism, dedication to duty, and courage & sacrifice among school children, while also encouraging increased youth engagement in nation building.
The newly included chapter sheds light on the National War Memorial (NWM), a symbol of reverence and tribute to the gallant soldiers who have fearlessly served the nation post-Independence.
The central theme of the chapter revolves around an exchange of heartfelt letters between two friends who express their deep gratitude for the freedom they enjoy today, attributing it to the indomitable sacrifices made by the brave soldiers. The narrative masterfully captures the emotional impact and resonance that young minds experience when visiting the iconic National War Memorial.
The memorial was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 25, 2019, in the capital city of New Delhi.
Garima Mishra, a school teacher, said, “The chapter that the government is going to add will definitely acquaint students with the sacrifices of the Indian army. They will come to know about the harsh living conditions in which they have to survive only to protect us from any foreign attack. I believe it is a great initiative that will also motivate students to not give up during adversity.”
