NEW DELHI: After the landing of Chandrayaan-3 on Wednesday, Union minister for state (MoS) Meenakshi Lekhi credited the success to Amrit Kaal and Kartavya Kaal — the two coinages by PM Narendra Modi — while also referring the tech marvels like Vikram Lander as by-product of the legacy of sages who had the prowess of astrophysics.

“I want to thank all our ancestors —  rishis and munis, who were astrophysicists of their time. They were the ones discovered that the earth is round and it revolves around the sun. They discovered the distance between earth, moon, and sun  Value of pi, zero to infinity, decimal integration-differentiation, algorithm, trigonometry were all decided by the Indians. And I think it is those roots, which have taken to this route,” Lekhi said.

Lekhi was speaking exclusively to The New Indian at Nehru Planetarium in Delhi.

Delhi parliamentarian also recounted the efforts of scientists, who had to face adversities either during their early careers or while working at ISRO, to ensure morals and values of the space research was not compromised.

“Several scientists have contributed to this success, I want to bow to them, people like Vikram Sarabhai, APJ Abdul Kalam, Nambi Narayan ji and S Somnath ji,” said Lekhi.

Lekhi said that Modi government’s scientific endeavour and temperament to honour scientists and researchers despite setbacks is reaping benefits.

“With limited means we have done so well, and it only goes to prove that the emphasis has been on the right things,” said Lekhi.
