NEW DELHI: Ahead of the Assembly elections, AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal has sought to stir emotions by declaring himself ‘chacha’ (uncle) to take on chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s carefully crafted image of ‘mama’ (maternal uncle).

Addressing a town hall in Satna, Kejriwal on Sunday said unveiled a set of 10 commitments for Madhya Pradesh, including his flagship free and uninterrupted electricity, quality education and healthcare, and more employment opportunities.

Any pending electricity bills until November 2023 will be pardoned if AAP comes to power in the next Assembly polls, he promised.

The Delhi chief minister accused ‘mama’ Shivraj Singh Chouhan for letting down his “nieces and nephews”. “Mama has deceived Madhya Pradesh. But people of Madhya Pradesh need not to worry. Your ‘brother, son and uncle’ is here to fulfill your dreams,” he said.

Kejriwal pledged to establish quality schools and create employment opportunities for the people, underlining that he will stand by his guarantees.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann also addressed the town hall.

Kejriwal emphasized that the Aam Aadmi Party is built upon the principles of integrity, honesty, and patriotism. He reminded the crowd that AAP originated from the anti-corruption movement led by Anna Hazare. The AAP chief contrasted his party’s approach with other political entities, stating that AAP is the only party that made explicit promises such as building schools and hospitals in its pre-election campaigns.

Kejriwal then elaborated on the 10 guarantees he is offering to the people of Madhya Pradesh. These include uninterrupted 24×7 electricity supply, quality education for all, free healthcare services with the establishment of Mohalla Clinics in every village, and the promise to combat unemployment.

He announced that if elected, his party aims to provide jobs for every unemployed youth in the state and offer them an unemployment allowance of Rs 3000 per month. Kejriwal also pledged free pilgrimage for the elderly, a one-crore rupee honorarium for the families of martyrs, and support for farmers and tribal communities.
