NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday addressed the nation and announced the repealing of the three contentious farm laws that farmer unions have been protesting since last year.
Modi made the announcement as he wished people on occasion of the Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev.
The prime minister in his speech said the thre farm laws were brought to support small farmers who could get better price for their produce. โWe brought the laws for supporting small farmers, our intent was pure, but unfortunately we could not convince some of themโฆ Today I apologise with if some farmers did not understand what we wanted to do through farm laws.โ
The prime minister is scheduled to arrive in Uttar Pradesh for public meetings in Jhansi and Mahobalater in the day.

Today, PM will inaugurate key schemes relating to irrigation in Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh,โ his office said in a tweet. โThen, he will go to Jhansi for the โRashtra Raksha Samparpan Parv.โ Before all of these programmes, he will address the nation at 9 AM,โ the Prime Ministerโs Office (PMO) had tweeted.
