NEW DELHI: Next week promises to be a packed schedule for Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he embarks on significant visits to the United States and Egypt from June 20 to 25.

The journey begins in New York, where PM Modi will lead the commemoration of the 9th International Day of Yoga at the United Nations Headquarters on June 21. The distinguished yoga session will witness the presence of Csaba Kőrösi, President of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, numerous UN members, state representatives, and prominent leaders. In December 2014, following PM Modi’s assumption of power, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution designating June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.

Following this, PM Modi will travel to Washington D.C., where he will receive a ceremonial welcome at the White House on June 22 and hold discussions with President Joe Biden. “President Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden will host a state dinner in honor of the Prime Minister on the same evening,” as per the Prime Minister’s office (PMO).

At the White House, PM Modi and President Biden will explore avenues to strengthen India-US collaboration in pluri-lateral and multilateral forums, including the G20. They will discuss their shared vision for a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific and explore opportunities to expand and consolidate engagement within the Quad framework.

PM Modi will join the list of distinguished world leaders for the second time to address a joint meeting of the Senate and the House of Representatives on June 22, becoming only the third world leader to do so. He addressed a joint session of the US Congress in 2016, becoming the fifth Indian Prime Minister to receive this honor.

“On June 23, the Prime Minister will be jointly hosted at a luncheon by Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken,” the release further stated.

Alongside official engagements, PM Modi is scheduled to have several curated interactions with leading CEOs, professionals, and other stakeholders. He will also meet members of the Indian diaspora.

This historic visit is expected to highlight the growing significance of the strategic partnership between India and the United States as the two nations collaborate across various sectors. The leaders will have the opportunity to review robust bilateral cooperation in technology, trade, industry, education, research, clean energy, defense, security, healthcare, and foster deeper people-to-people connections.

This momentous visit presents a valuable opportunity for India and the US to further strengthen their comprehensive and forward-looking global strategic partnership.
