It was a proud moment for The New Indian family as one of our highly talented young photojournalists, Sumit Kumar, was recognised by the Delhi Police for his talent and hard work on Monday.
Kumar, an alumnus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), has won the third prize for his poignant picture for Delhi Police’s photo competition, Delhi Police in Pixel.
Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora awarded the young photojournalist with a certificate along with a cash prize of ₹10,000. Delhi Police also selected four of Kumar’s photographs to be kept in their library.
Talking about his award-winning photograph, Kumar said, “I was not thinking about any awards as some of the best were in the fray. But I have been a very competitive person. I just want to compete and give my best.”
“The photograph that won the award is that of a policeman during the Bharat Jodo Yatra. He was on crowd control duty. He was facing towards the crowd that was swelling with the passage of time,” he explained.
