Opt out of telemarketing calls, but don’t come back for our products, says Sanjiv Bajaj

The frequency of pesky calls from Bajaj Finance has surged in recent weeks, leading to mounting frustration among individuals who have taken to Twitter to share their grievances.

NEW DELHI: Bajaj Finance Ltd. is set to provide individuals with the choice to opt out of receiving unsolicited telemarketing calls from the company. Sanjiv Bajaj, the managing director of Bajaj Finserv Ltd., the parent company, announced at an event launching the company’s mutual fund business that within three months, customers will find an option on the website and web app to click, ensuring they are never bothered again.

“You will see in three months time on our website, on our web app, an option, you click it, we will never bother you again. You know the right to be forgotten. You will have the right to be forgotten with us. But then make sure you never come back to us for your products and solutions,” said Sanjiv Bajaj.


The frequency of pesky calls from Bajaj Finance has surged in recent times leading to mounting frustration among individuals who have taken to Twitter to share their grievances. Bajaj Finance has responded by urging users to fill out a form to be included in their “Do not Call/SMS” list, although some users express skepticism about its effectiveness.

Bajaj Finance acknowledges the frustrations expressed by customers and seeks to address them by embracing a more personalized and efficient approach to communication, said Sanjiv Bajaj.

Presently, their telemarketing accounts for less than 15% of their business, but with a growing focus on digital channels, they aspire to reduce it to below 10%.

“Aim would ideally be even that 15% bring it down to 10, take it down to 0, so that our calls will only be service calls, all promotional activity will happen through our digital channels. That’s the aim that we want to get to,” added Bajaj.

This move aims to address the concerns of many individuals who have expressed frustration on social media regarding persistent calls from Bajaj Finance representatives attempting to sell loans. Bajaj acknowledged that the current system sometimes fails, but emphasized the importance of outreach, considering their monthly issuance of three million loans.

While Bajaj Finance receives approximately 15% of its business through telemarketing calls, this percentage holds significant weight due to the large number of small-ticket loans the company offers.
