New Delhi: Expelled Janata Dal (United) leader Dr Ajay Alok joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Union minister Ashwini Vaishnav in New Delhi on Friday.

Speaking to the media after joining the BJP, Alok said that his thoughts did not match with those of the JD (U) and that he felt like he had come home by joining the saffron camp.
Welcoming Alok to the party, Vaishnav said that the BJP believed in putting the nation first and that Alok’s input would be valuable. “We are happy to welcome Dr Ajay Alok, who is a doctor by profession. His analysis is accurate, and he has been in the social field since 2005, which is a long time,” he said.
The minister further said, “We, the BJP, and PM Modi always think of the nation first, and we welcome Dr. Ajay Alok, who is a doctor by profession and shares this motto of nation first.”
Alok, who was also a spokesperson for JD (U), said that he was inspired by Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and that he would be proud to contribute even one percent to “Modi Mission.” He added that the BJP’s motto of working for the poor and deprived resonated with him.
Apart from Alok, the JD (U) had also suspended state general secretaries Anil Kumar and Vipin Kumar Yadav from the party’s primary membership. Bihar JD (U) chief Umesh Singh Kushwaha told reporters that the decision was taken to strengthen the party and maintain discipline.
After being expelled from the JD (U), Alok had thanked the party for relieving him of his responsibilities and had given his best wishes to the party. “Badi der kar di meherbaan aate aate. I am thankful to the party for relieving me. It was a long association with the party and was a good experience. All my best wishes are with you,” Alok had said.
The move is significant in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, as the BJP looks to expand its footprint in Bihar. The state is currently ruled by a coalition of the JD(U), RJD, Congress and Left parties.
