Wondered about story behind colourful festival of Holi?

It's an ancient Hindu festival that marks the arrival of spring, victory of good over evil, and thanksgiving for a good harvest, now celebrated by non-Hindu communities too.

One of the legends is about King Hiranyakashipu, who demanded worship as a god, and his son Prahlada who remained devoted to Vishnu.

Vishnu appeared as Narsimha, saved Prahlada, and killed the king.

Another legend is about Lord Krishna smearing Radha's face with colours, which evolved into the festival of Holi.

Holi celebrations start with Holika Dahan to destroy inner evil, followed by playing with colours and water guns or balloons.

Varied customs are observed across regions, including Basanta Utsav, Lathmar Holi, Matki Phod, and Hola Mohalla, but the festival unites people in spirit.
