On its 138th foundation day, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday charged the Modi government with spreading hatred in the country and gave a clarion call for protecting the โidea of Indiaโ.
Kharge hoisted the Congress flag on the occasion in the presence of former party presidents Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi along with several top leaders like KC Venugopal, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Ambika Soni, Madhusudan Mistry, and Manishankar Aiyar.
Addressing workers at the party headquarters, Kharge said that the โidea of Indiaโ is being challenged by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its supporters.
โThe basic principles of India are under constant attack. A pit of hatred is being dug all over the country. People are in trouble due to inflation, unemployment but the government does not care,โ Kharge said.
โThe Congress needs to unite youngsters, women and deprived sections of the society and take them along in our fight against price rise, unemployment and hatred,โ the Congress leader, who is also a Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha said.
Kharge also pointed out that India not only emerged as a successful and strong democracy but within a few decades, it became a superpower in economic, nuclear and strategic areas.
โThis did not happen on its own. This happened due to Congressโ faith in democracy and our inclusive ideology of taking everyone along and due to our full faith in the Constitution that gives equal rights and opportunities to all,โ Kharge said.
He said that Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra has given a new lease of life to the Congress party, comparing it with โsanjeevaniโ. Kharge further claimed that the yatra received massive support across the country and has rattled the partyโs rivals.
On the Congress foundation day, Rahul said he is proud to be part of โan organisation that always chose the path of truth, non-violence and struggle and took every step for the public goodโ.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi responded to questions about his choice of wearing a T-shirt amid the chilling cold. Rahul has been spotted in a white T-shirt on several occasions in the past many days. When he came to the party office again in the same T-shirt, a reporter asked: โThe same T-shirt again?โ To which, Rahul responded: โThis T-shirt is totally fine. Iโll wear it as long as it is worth wearing.โ
