LAKHIMPUR KHERI: Minister of state for home (MoS) Ajay Mishra Teni, whose son is being accused of ramming an SUV into farmers, on Tuesday rubbished charges on his presence, saying the family was holding fort at a wrestling championship since 11 AM till the evening while the clashes between farmers and BJP supporters took place four kilometers away from the event.
Mishra made these disclosures while speaking to The New Indian’s Pramod Kumar Singh and Anand Kumar Singh at his office in Civil Lines area of Kheri.
When specifically asked about the video in which a Thar SUV is seen running over protesters, Mishra denied involvement of his family members.
“All charges against him and my son are baseless. A traditional wrestling competition had been going on in my village. This time UP deputy CM Keshav Maurya was the chief guest that day. It was an outdoor event which was open to all. Thousands of people came to watch it. My son was there,” he told The New Indian.
“This incident took place four kilometre away from the public event. It started after party workers went in 2-3 vehicles to receive the UP deputy CM Keshav Maurya at the helipad. Although I wasn’t present at the site, but I am told black flags were shown and vehicles were pelted at and even stopped. My own driver Hari Om Mishra was part of them”
He also took swipes at farmers , saying they were armed with swords, sticks and lathis. “Three of my workers were bludgeoned to death. Many were badly injured. Vehicles were forcibly turned upside down. I am fully convinced that there were instigators among farmers who were behind this violence,” he said.
Asked about the detention of several leaders like Priyanka Gandhi, and Deepender Hooda while not allowing MPs of other regional parties to visit Lakhimpur Kheri, he said,” They are trying to instigate violence here and provoke others. Its certainly an unfortunate incident. They shouldn’t be allowed to visit the place,”
