On November 24, development of the Shahid Beheshti terminal of the Chabahar Port was agreed to by India and Iran at the Foreign Office Consultations.

Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra and Deputy FM Ali Bagheri Kani of Iran led the talks.

Dr. Kani is a close relative of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He also handles Iran’s nuclear negotiations.

Kani met with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during his visit to New Delhi.

Developing Chabahar port will ensure better trade with African countries for India.

The Shahid Beheshti terminal is taken over by Indian firm, India Ports Global Limited who will be developing it.

The port is a gateway for trade by India, Iran and Afghanistan with Central Asian countries.
