On November 6, spinner Ravindran Ashwin became India's leading wicket- taker in the history of ICC T20 World Cup event.

R. Ashwin dominated with a yield of three for 22 as India defeated Zimbabwe by 71 runs in the match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Ashwin is now the first Indian to take 30 plus wickets at T20 World Cup.

In Test cricket history, Ashwin is the eighth-highest wicket-taker with 442 scalps after Anil Kumble (619). He is the second-most successful Indian Test bowler ever .

In 2016 World T20, Ashwin was behind Sunil Narine in the best overall bowling average with an economy of 6.45 from 97 games.

In 2011, IPL tournament between Chennai Super Kings against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Ashwin's 3/16 helped Chennai lift the trophy.

Another three-wicket haul came in for for Ashwin in 2009 IPL CSK vs Kolkata Knight Riders match. The Tamil Nadu spinner took care of Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum, and David Hussey, all dangerous batsmen, as he finished with figures of 3/16 in four overs.
