Gaurikund-Kedarnath Ropeway Project

After performing puja at the Kedarnath temple, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated a slew of projects including laying the foundation stone of the nearly 10-km-long Gaurikund-Kedarnath ropeway project, which is touted to be the longest ropeway in the world at an altitude of 11,500 feet. The Rs 1267 crores ropeway project will further improve connectivity in the area.

As of now, pilgrims have to trek around 16-km from Gaurikund to reach the holy shrine of Kedarnath which takes up to 10 hours. With the construction of the ropeway, the travel time from Sonaprayag to Kedarnath in Rudraprayag district will be reduced to just 30 minutes.

During his visit to Kedarnath last year, PM Modi said that the work on ropeways to Kedarnath and Shri Hemkund Sahib would commence soon.
