Pak JeM Terrorist Killed In J&K’s Kulgam Encounter

A Pakistani Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) terrorist was killed, while an army soldier and two civilians injured in an encounter in Batapora village of Kulgam district around 5 pm on Monday.

Police sources said that after receiving information about the presence of terrorists in the area, a joint of a team of police, Army, and CRPF launched a search operation.

Additional Director General of Police (Kashmir zone) Vijay Kumar said that in the ensuing encounter, a Pakistani terrorist, identified as Abu Hurarah of JeM outfit, was killed. Incriminating material, arms and ammunition, including an AK rifle, were recovered. An army soldier and two civilians were also injured in the encounter. They have been shifted to a hospital.

Earlier, the police said that an Army soldier and two civilians were injured in the cross firing. All of them are stated to be stable.

Kulgam in south Kashmir was the hotbed of JeM terrorism even before the 2019 Pulwama terror attack took place.

On Sunday, two unidentified terrorists were killed after Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police foiled an infiltration bid in Machil along the Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara.

The bid was foiled at Tekri Nar area of Machil on Sunday morning and the identity of the terrorists is being ascertained.

“Army and Kupwara Police neutralized two terrorists near LoC Tekri Nar in Machil area of Kupwara. Identification of the killed terrorists is being ascertained. 02 AK 47 rifles, 02 pistols & 04 hand grenades recovered. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted on Sunday afternoon.

The Army, in a statement, had said that based on specific intelligence inputs received from JKP and other intelligence agencies, of a likely infiltration attempt in Machil Sector, troops were put on high alert and joint ambushes of JKP and Army laid on likely routes of infiltration.
