A government-ordered survey to identify non-registered madrasas is underway in Uttar Pradesh.
The survey will focus on seven points including the source of funding to these non-registered madrasas, as per state government officials.
As per estimates, around 10 lakh students study in non-registered madrasas while nearly 19 are enrolled in registered madrasas in the state.
In a letter, UP’s minority welfare and waqf department asked all district magistrates to submit the survey report to the department by October 25.
A district-level survey team having a sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), district Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) and district minority welfare officer as its members had to be set up by September 10, as per the letter written by undersecretary Shakil Ahmad Siddiqui.
Additional district magistrate (administration) will supervise the survey and submit the report to the district magistrate by October 10, the letter said.
The survey will have to be completed in all districts by October 5, as per the government order.
Finally, all district magistrates have been asked to submit the report to the department by October 25.
