United States (US) Senator Jon Ossoff met students, business executives, and diplomatic leaders in Mumbai on Tuesday as he started his eight-day official visit to India.

Senator Ossoff, who is from the US state of Georgia, is leading a delegation to strengthen economic, scientific, cultural, and security ties between the two countries.

He hosted a discussion with students of Jai Hind College in Mumbai to hear directly from young people in India on the challenges facing their generation, his office said.

Senator Ossoff also held a bilateral meeting with India EXIM Bank managing director Harsha Bangari and other senior leaders to discuss foreign direct investment opportunities in the US and trade between India and Georgia.

Hindalco managing director Satish Pai, Aditya Birla Group Director (HR) Santrupt Misra, and former principal economic advisor to the Central government Illa Patnaik were among the senior business leaders who met the US politician.

During the meeting with senior executives of Aditya Birla Group, Ossoff discussed the group’s investment in Georgia and how to further deepen the relationship between Georgia and the Indian business.

Aditya Birla Group is the parent company of Georgia-headquartered businesses Novelis and Birla Carbon.

Senator Ossoff also discussed US-India trade, economic, and security priorities with senior US diplomats to India, including Acting Deputy Chief of Mission in New Delhi Brian Heath and Consul General in Mumbai Mike Hankey.

In June, the senator met with Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu to highlight opportunities for continued collaboration between the two countries–addressing the top concerns facing Georgia’s Indian diaspora.

Earlier this month, he also shared a video message with the Indian people to mark the country’s 75th anniversary of independence.

Elected in 2021, Senator Ossoff serves on the powerful Senate Judiciary; Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; and Rules Committees. He also serves as Chairman of the Homeland Security Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.
