KOLKATA: Ignoring Mamata Banerjee’s diktat to abstain from the Vice Presidential election, two Trinamool Congress Members of Parliament Shishir Adhikari and Dibyendu Adhikari exercised their franchise on Saturday.

Shishir Adhikari is the father of the current Leader of Opposition in the Bengal Assembly and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari. Dibyendu, on the other hand, is the younger brother of Suvendu Adhikari.

TMC leader in Lok Sabha Sudip Banerjee had written to Kanthi MP Shishir Adhikari and Tamluk MP Dibyendu Adhikari asking them not to participate in the VP elections.

Talking to The New Indian, Shantanu Sen, MP, said, “They (Adhikari’s) have proved themselves to be disloyal to the party for long. I will ask them to show minimum morality and minimum ethics. They must resign from MP seats and fight a fresh contest without using the photograph of our Chief minister Mamata Banerjee and without using the TMC party symbol.”

“This is an immoral activity. Earlier it has been noticed that during the municipality election Shishir Adhikari was found campaigning for his son Suvendu Adhikari and his party. They are openly doing this at the behest of the ruling party (in the centre). If they have the guts and humanity they should resign from the MP seats,” Sen said.

The parliamentary party leader of TMC has sent letters to them.

On July 21 the TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee expressed the party’s disapproval of the process of naming the vice presidential candidate without consulting the party. Banerjee, who is also the nephew of Didi, said that the party won’t take part in the elections.
