NEW DELHI: Days after the Bihar Police arrested five member of the Popular Front of India (PFI), who were allegedly part of a module that sought to target those “who make adverse and objectionable” comments against Islam, the NIA on Saturday said it will probe possible terror angle to the case.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has registered a case under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

A senior NIA official privy to the matter told The New Indian, “We have registered a case on the basis of the order of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).”

The agency received the ministry order on Friday night, the official said.

The action comes days after three PFI members from Bihar’s Patna and one member, an advocate, from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.

Earlier this month, the Patna Police arrested Athar Parvez, who was associated with the Ghazwa-e-Hind group and had also created two WhatsApp groups with his Pakistan mobile number; Mohammad Jallauddin, a retired policeman from Jharkhand; Arman Malik; and Marguv Ahmad Danish, who was allegedly part of Pakistan-based radical groups from Phulwari Sharief area.

On July 16, the Patna Police, with the help of the UP STF, arrested advocate Nuruddin Jangi, a native of Bihar’s Darbhanga, from Lucknow.
