DEHRADUN: After Draupadi Murmu won the Presidential elections, the Uttarakhand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a victory show in Kashipur, Udham Singh Nagar on Thursday.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami congratulated President-Elect Murmu.

“Her win signifies a golden era in the history of democratic India. The election of a woman from such humble beginnings has affirmed the faith of the people in the Indian Constitution,” Dhami said.

As the news of Murmu crossing the halfway mark in the third round of voting began to flow, celebrations started by BJP state functionaries and workers, who had gathered in Kashipur for the three-day training session.

With party functionaries busy in Kashipur, the state headquarters of the party in Dehradun wore a rather deserted look. It, however, came to life after Deepti Rawat Bhardwaj, national general secretary of the Women’s Wing of the party, paid a visit with a few women workers.

“I congratulate Draupadi Murmu Ji. Her winning establishes that in Indian democracy anyone can reach anywhere they want to, given their hard work and dedication,” Bhardwaj said.

State party president Madan Kaushik, CM Dhami, the MLAs, workers and others joined the road show led by the CM and Kaushik along with the people.

Party flags and loudspeakers blaring ‘Vande Matram’ echoed through the main market area of the town.

Harsh Taneja, a practising lawyer in Uttarakhand High Court who joined the roadshow, told The New Indian, “It is a matter of pride to us that we live in a democracy like India. Draupadi Murmu Ji is a fighter, a brave woman and an inspiration for all of us. We congratulate her and we are sure that she will represent India with all her humility and as an ambassador of Indian democracy.”
