Army Captain, JCO Killed; Several Soldiers Injured In ‘Accidental Grenade Blast’

SRINAGAR: Army on Monday said a captain and a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) were killed in an “accidental grenade blast” along the Line of Control in the Mendhar sector in the Poonch district.

“Last night, an accidental grenade blast occurred in Mendhar Sector, district Poonch when troops were performing their duties along the Line of Control,” a defence ministry spokesman based in Jammu said. “The blast resulted in injuries to soldiers.

During the treatment, one officer and one JCO succumbed to their injuries. The number of injured personnel has not been revealed in the statement.

An army officer told The New Indian that a court of inquiry has been ordered into the incident. He identified the captain as Anand and JCO as Bhagwan Singh. The officer also did not reveal the number of the injured. “Several soldiers were injured,” he added.
