Kashmir Tragedy: OGW Son Killed By Security, Father By Terrorists

KULGAM: The sombre mood at Lone household is a stark reminder of the contrasting style of tragedy that perhaps had plagued many households in the valley.

Two years back, the two daughters and a son wailed at the death of their brother, a terrorist Over Ground Worker, was killed by the security forces. On Tuesday, they cried for the death of their father – Assistant sub-inspector Mushtaq Ahmad – who was killed by terrorists.

A terrorist propaganda arm, Amaq, released a video of the attack that appeared to have been shot using body cameras worn by the terrorists. It was one of the rare instances when terrorists released a video of an attack.

The extreme anguish was rooted in the tragedies the family had to go through and the circumstances of the killing of two family members – father and son.

In April 2020, Aaqib Mushtaq, an engineering graduate, was killed in an encounter in Guddar area of Kulgam. Police had said that Aaqib was a terrorist associate.

The police had said that there was an encounter with terrorists in Kulgam. At least four terrorists managed to escape, but during searches, they found the body of Aaqib Mushtaq. He was described as a “terrorist associate” by the police.

Like other killed terrorists, the body of Aaqib was not handed over to the family, and it was buried at a nondescript burial ground in Baramulla district in northern Kashmir.

Hundreds of people participated in his last rites and took part in funeral prayers besides that hundreds of people visited his residence on Wednesday to offer condolences.

Police spokesperson said that DIG SKR Anantnag Abdul Jabbar- SSP Kulgam GV Sundeep Chakravarthy alongwith DySP HQR and SHO Kulgam visited the family of ASI Mushtaq Ahmad.

“Officers expressed their sympathy and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and assured the family members that every possible help and support to the family will be provided by the department of J&K police,” it said

The police have said they hope to track down the terrorists with the help of CCTV footage. “We are analysing CCTV footage. Whoever is found involved will be neutralised very soon,” said ADGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar.
