NEW DELHI: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has busted a massive drug trafficking network with the seizure of 34.89 kg of “high grade” heroin, and arrested nine accused including its kingpin, a Nigerian operating from Delhi.
Acting on credible inputs, sleuths of the NCB in Bengaluru seized 7 kg of heroin, which was concealed in a false bottom of a suitcase of one female passenger who arrived at the Kempegowda International Airport from Zimbabwe on May 24.
The woman was arrested along with her associate at the airport, said NCB director general SN Pradhan.
“Both the ladies were interrogated thoroughly, during which they revealed that one similar bag was kept in the lodge where they were staying. Immediate search of the room resulted in the recovery of similar type of bag and 6.89 kg of heroin,” he revealed in a statement.
During the technical analysis, the anti-drug agency found that three more woman passengers with similar consignment were en route Delhi from Bengaluru by Rajdhani Express.
“NCB worked on the technical intelligence and narrowed down the carriers and detected that they had got down near Itarsi, Madhya Pradesh. Consequently, the Indore zonal team recovered 21 kg of heroin from three similar trolley bags and apprehended the three ladies from a lodge,” Pradhan informed.
Further investigation conducted simultaneously resulted in identification of the handlers of the accused women. They were intercepted at the Bengaluru airport and their interrogation led to the identification of the Nigerian kingpin and his handlers in Delhi.
“The NCB team was successful in nabbing the Nigerian kingpin of this heroin racket and three more female African associates,” the agency said, adding that a total of 34.89 kg of high grade heroin were seized, eight persons arrested and three more African women were apprehended from Bengaluru, Itarsi and Delhi.
The Nigerian kingpin used to ask Indian woman handler to organise female carriers who will fly abroad from India and bring such consignments concealed in luggage.
They were paid for each trip along with all travel expenses by the cartel, the NCB stated.
