NEW DELHI: Highlighting price rise, unemployment, communal tension and a host of other issues, Congress on Thursday released a report titled ‘8 Saal, 8 Chhal, BJP Sarkar Vifal’ as the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government completed eight years in power.

Speaking to the media, party general secretary Ajay Maken said, “The promise of ‘Achche Din’ was a rhetoric, and questioned for who did the good times come for.”

Hitting hard at the government, the former union minister said, “The most important catch-phrase before the polls was ‘achche din aayenge’. Today the question that people, as well as Congress, is asking is who is enjoying the good times?”

“Is it for the BJP who has got properties worth over Rs 5,000 crore… Or for the ultra-rich who are earning Rs 1,000 crore or more… Or for those 142 richest people who earned Rs 30 lakh crore even during Covid times,” the Congress leader asked.

He also said India has slipped from the 55th to 101st on the Global Hunger Index. Maken also pointed out that the country had climbed down on several other international indexes like Press Freedom, Gender Gap, Rule of Law, Social Progress, Democracy Index and Food Security.

Talking about rising cases of religious violence in the country, Maken said, “Everyone knows wherever violence or riots took place due to religion, BJP has been involved directly or indirectly. This is BJP’s agenda.”

Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala also said that BJP’s disastrous policies contributed to the severe fall of the Indian economy.

“What was once the fastest-growing economy, is now in turmoil thanks to the BJP’s eight years of misgovernance,” Surjewala said.

Surjewala further said that the BJP government is breaking all records in hoodwinking its people.

First, by setting petrol-diesel prices high by increasing excise duty and then reducing it a bit to showcase itself as a pro-people government. “Are these the ‘achhe din’ you waited for so long?” he questioned.
