SHIMLA: Will law finally catch up with powerful Himachal Pradesh official Tilak Raj Sharma? The fate will be known on May 24 when the Punjab and Haryana High Court will sit for the final hearing on the stay order against Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)’s investigation in the case.

Sharma was arrested after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) caught him red-handed accepting bribes in 2017 in Chandigarh.

Claiming he was falsely implicated, Sharma, who is now the additional director of industries, was quickly out on bail since.

While Punjab and Haryana High Court had stayed further investigations by the central agency in this matter, CBI is seeking the stay to be vacated to proceed further.

Sharma was arrested by the CBI in Chandigarh along with a Baddi-based businessman, Ashok Rana on charges of taking a bribe of Rs 10 lakh for processing and recommending a subsidy grant of Rs 50 lakh to a Baddi-based company Medicef Pharma in 2017.

The complainant, Chander Shekhar, a consultant for Medicef Pharma and also a chartered accountant, had handed over the cash, with the CBI waiting at a parking lot in Chandigarh when the two were arrested.

Sharma had applied for bail on July 24, 2017, stating that he had been falsely implicated since nothing had been recovered from him.

Talking to The New Indian, Chander Shekhar says that it’s been five years now, law will take its course. “Baddi is the industrial hub and the situation has improved after things have become online. It’s not that everybody is wrong but black-sheep is always there that should remain under the watch of authorities,” he said.
