At 44.2 ºC, Delhi Records Highest Max Temp Of Season

NEW DELHI: Delhi recorded the highest maximum temperature of the season with Safdarjung clocked at 44.2 ºC on Saturday.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) observes that all 10 stations of Delhi reported heatwave conditions. Three stations reported severe heatwave conditions. However, the data for Delhi University, Narela and Pusa could not be available.

But IMD gave a ray of respite as it hoped that the western disturbances will give relief from the scorching heat on May 15. “This will plummet the temperature and the prevailing heat condition,” IMD said.

Speaking with The New Indian, RK Jenamani, senior scientist, IMD informed, “Delhi recorded the highest maximum temperature of 2022 on May 14. As per the Safdarjung data, the temperature recorded is 44.2.”

“Heatwave is prevailing over most parts of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and MP also. Western disturbance is coming and temperature will start decreasing from May 16 onward,” he said.

March witnessed the highest average maximum temperature of 30.73ºC in the last 122 years. The earlier highest temperature was recorded in 2004 at 30.67 ºC.

Also regarding other parts of the country heatwave to severe heatwave conditions were observed in most parts of West Rajasthan and Haryana -Chandigarh.

Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions was observed in several parts of East Rajasthan, southern parts of East UP and northern parts of East MP and some parts of Punjab.

Heat wave conditions were observed in most parts of Northwest Madhya Pradesh and southwest UP.
