NEW DELHI: UK Foreign Secretary Elizabeth Truss will arrive in New Delhi on Thursday for an official visit to India on Thursday, March 31. She will discuss bilateral trade and ties with External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar during her visit.
Truss will hold bilateral consultations with External Affairs Minister, Dr S. Jaishankar on bilateral, regional, and global issues of mutual interest, said the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
She will also address the inaugural edition of the India-Strategic Futures Forum jointly organised by Delhi-based top think-tank Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) and UK’s Policy Exchange here.
The India-UK relationship was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the India-UK Virtual Summit held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UK PM Boris Johnson in May last year.
The two sides also review the developments regarding the Roadmap 2030 launched during the virtual summit.
This would be the second visit by the UK foreign secretary to India since conclusion of the virtual summit.
“The visit will also serve to further deepen our partnership across various sectors such as trade & investment, science, technology & innovation, defence & security, climate cooperation, education and digital communications,” the ministry stated.
The UK foreign secretary’s visit to India comes at a time when the two countries are negotiating a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) which aims to take the bilateral trade to USD 100 billion, and increase exports of items like jewelry, leather, and textile from India.
The India-Strategic Futures Forum will also be addressed by EAM S Jaishankar, a source from ICWA told The New Indian.
Last week, PM Modi and PM Johnson held a telephonic conversation and discussed the situation in Ukraine.
