VARANASI (UTTAR PRADESH): Reiterating his claim, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Saturday said that ruling BJP will return to power by winning more than 300 seats in the assembly elections.
Speaking to The New Indian here, Maurya said that the “double-engine government”, a reference to BJP governments in the state as well as at the Centre, will be formed in Uttar Pradesh after conclusion of the polls. “Lotus (BJP symbol) will bloom in Uttar Pradesh after March 10,” he said.
The deputy chief minister offered prayers at Kashi Vishwanath temple and paid a surprise visit to a famous local sweet shop in the city.
“We always remain close to the people of Uttar Pradesh. On the other hand, Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Congress keeps a distance from the people,” he said.
Taking a pot shot at Opposition parties, Maurya further said, “They come here for picnic and if you search them after March 10, you would not find them. On the contrary, we stay in touch with people before and after elections.”

He was responding to a question on Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav holding a road show in Varanasi, moments after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mega road show in the temple town and the visit of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
“There is no doubt that the double-engine government will come to power again in UP after the polls,” he told The New Indian, adding that the saffron party is going to win more than 300 seats.
When asked if he feels that Modi wave is still intact, Maurya said, “Modi and Yogi magic will work in UP. The work of our government speak for us and with the blessings of Kashi Vishwanath, we will win.”
To a question if the state still votes on caste lines, Maurya said, “In 2014, people started voting against the equations based on caste. So, similarly they will vote for development this time also.”
The BJP leader also appealed the people of the state to come out in large numbers and vote for BJP in the last phase of polling on March 7, saying that BJP government will continue to guarantee safety of all. “SP and BSP are a threat to law and order. They are a threat to smooth and honest functioning of the government,” he stated.
On being asked if he will still be the deputy chief minister after the polls, Maurya said, “I cannot comment on the decisions that are to be taken by the party.”
Counting of votes for the assembly elections will take place on March 10.
