MUMBAI: Noted music composer Bappi Lahiri, known as ‘Disco King’ of India, passed away at the age of 69 in Mmbai on Wednesday after multiple health issues.
“Lahiri had been admitted to the hospital for a month and was discharged on Monday. But his health deteriorated on Tuesday and his family called for a doctor to visit their home. He was brought to the hospital. He had multiple health issues. He died due to OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) shortly before midnight,” Dr Deepak Namjoshi, director of the hospital, said.
Lahiri composed a plethora of blockbuster songs for many movies in the 1970s and 80s. ‘Chalte Chalte’, ‘Disco Dancer’, ‘Himmatwala’, ‘Namak Halal’, ‘Saaheb’ and ‘Sharaabi’ are some of the prominent movies whose music he composed.
His death comes less than a fortnight after legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar died at the age of 92.
