NEW DELHI: A mega controversy has erupted in Punjab Police after one of their own senior woman constable attached in Bathinda was arrested by the state police, kicking a storm after a private citizen held a FB Live accusing that she was her husbandโ€™s paramour as well held close relation with an IPS.

Amandeep Kaur was arrested by Bathinda Police near Badal flyover with 17.7 gram of heroin in her posession.

A private citizen Harmeet Kaur who charged Amandeep of infidelity and protection by an IPS officer had give inputs to Bathinda Police that led to the female copโ€™s arrest.

Even before Punjab Police could record her statements, Punjab IDG (headquarters) and 2003-batch IPS Sukhchain Gill announced that the Mann government has dismissed her from services, barely hours after arrest.

It is not clear at the moment to what extent is the role of any IPS officer in this racket but sources in Punjab Police said that Harmeet has spilled the beans.

โ€œThis IPS officer whose name she is mentioning is serving in a commissionerateโ€ a Punjab Police official said.

There are three commissionerates in Punjab: Amritsar, Ludhiana & Jalandhar,

Gurpreet Bhullar, a controversial promotee officer is serving Amritsar, Swapan Sharma is serving Ludhiana and Dhanpreet Kaur is serving Jalandhar.

Bathinda Police said they were not ready to confirm if they will summon Harmeet on widening the probe.

โ€œWe may inform Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav to take further directions as its a sensitive and serious matter before summoning a private citizen
Or recording her statement,โ€ said a senior Bathinda Police official.
