New Delhi: Gurindervir Singh set a new national 100m record. He clocked 10.2 seconds at the Indian Grand Prix 1. The event took place at the SAI South Centre in Bengaluru on March 28.

 

He broke Manikanta H Hoblidharโ€™s 100m record. The previous record was 10.23 seconds, set in 2023. Hoblidhar improved his time to 10.22s but finished second.

 

Amlan Borgohain came third. He completed the race in 10.43s. All three runners train at the Reliance Foundation High Performance Centre.

 

Historic Sprint and Future Prospects

 

Gurindervir Singh qualified for the 26th Asian Athletics Championships. The entry standard is 10.25s. Selection depends on the Athletics Federation of India. The championship will be held in Gumi, South Korea, in May.

 

He ran in lane 5 alongside Hoblidhar in lane 6. The Jalandhar-born sprinter took the lead near the finish line.

 

 

Gurindervir won gold in the 100m at the 2021 and 2024 Inter-State Championships. He also clinched first place at the 2024 Federation Cup.

 

His coach is James Hiller. Five of the top six sprinters in the race represent the Reliance Foundation.

The record-breaking sprinter expressed his happiness after the race.

 

โ€œIโ€™m extremely happy to have posted a good time in the IGP ahead of the Federation Cup in April,โ€ Gurindervir said.

He acknowledged that breaking the national record was unexpected but rewarding.

 

โ€œI wanted to run a fast race but the national record was a bonus. I should be able to do better at the Federation Cup,โ€ he added.

 

Gurindervir remains focused on improving his performance in future competitions. His next big test will be at the Federation Cup.

 

Fastest Woman Sprinter

 

Nithya Gandhe won the womenโ€™s 100m. She clocked 11.41 seconds. Sneha SS finished second with 11.55s. Abinaya Rajarajan came third at 11.59s.

 

Nithya also won the 200m race. She clocked 23.36 seconds. Jyothi Yarraji clinched gold in the 100m hurdles.

 

Gurindervir Singh 100m record is a major milestone for Indian athletics. The upcoming Federation Cup will be another big test for him.
