LADAKH: Ahead of Army Day on January 15, Reliance Jio, in collaboration with the Indian Army, has accomplished a remarkable feat by bringing 4G and 5G connectivity to the Siachen Glacier, the highest battlefield in the world. With the assistance of the Army’s Signal Corps, Jio has become the first telecom operator to provide seamless network access in this extreme terrain.
Using its indigenous 5G technology, Reliance Jio deployed pre-configured plug-and-play equipment at a forward base in Siachen. The operation involved meticulous planning, multiple training sessions, system configurations, and thorough testing, all carried out in coordination with Army Signal personnel.

The Indian Army played a crucial role in managing logistics, including the airlifting of Jio’s network equipment to Siachen, situated at 16,000 feet in the Karakoram range. Known for its hostile environment, temperatures in the area often dip below -50°C.
“This initiative highlights Jio’s commitment to overcoming geographic barriers and connecting even the most remote parts of the nation,” said an official. It also underscores Jio’s capability to deliver reliable communication systems in support of India’s armed forces, enabling them to guard the country’s borders under the most challenging conditions.
