NEW DELHI: The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for undergraduate and postgraduate admissions is set to undergo significant changes for the 2025 cycle, as announced by UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar.

“Based on feedback from past years, it is also essential to continuously improve the examination process to provide a better, more efficient and conducive environment for students taking CUET. In this spirit, the UGC has constituted an expert committee to review the conduct of CUET UG and CUET PG for 2025,” Kumar said.

Kumar took to the social media platform X, to share a video detailing the steps being taken to refine CUET. On December 9, he held a two-hour interaction with students from various degree colleges who had cleared CUET UG 2024 to gain insights and suggestions for improvements. “It was indeed a pleasure to hear their perspectives and feedback,” he noted.

The expert committee, constituted by the UGC, has reviewed various aspects of the exam, including its structure, the number of papers, the duration of test papers, syllabus alignment, and operational logistics. “The commission considered these recommendations in a recent meeting,” Kumar remarked.

Based on the committee’s report and student feedback, the UGC will soon release a draft proposal outlining the revised guidelines for CUET UG and CUET PG 2025. Stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers, and institutions, will be invited to provide their suggestions on the proposed changes.

The CUET UG 2024 has already seen some modifications to address issues identified in previous years. For instance, subjects with higher registration numbers were conducted using OMR sheets instead of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) format, and the difficulty level was kept moderate to reduce student stress. However, technical challenges persisted.

The exam, conducted between May 15 and 29 and on July 19, faced postponements in Delhi and Faridabad due to operational issues. In Kanpur, controversy arose when a wrong question paper was distributed, leading to the cancellation of the exam at one centre.

The upcoming changes to CUET aim to address these operational issues and create a more streamlined process. With CUET UG and PG becoming a gateway for higher education across central universities, these improvements are expected to ease the process for millions of aspirants nationwide.
