NEW DELHI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the Assam Police for their prompt action in intercepting four illegal infiltrators near the Indo-Bangladesh border. Sharing his appreciation on X, formerly known as Twitter, the Chief Minister wrote, “4 illegal infiltrators were apprehended by Assam Police (@assampolice) near the border and sent back to Bangladesh. Good job, Team!”

The apprehended individuals—identified as Rumana Shaikh, Md Badshah Shaikh, Reksona Khatun, and Musama Aisha Khatun—were intercepted by security forces while attempting to enter Indian territory. Following due verification, all four were sent back to Bangladesh, ensuring the safety and integrity of the border.

Officials credited the success of this operation to enhanced border surveillance and advanced security tools, including drones, night-vision cameras, and real-time intelligence inputs. Over recent months, Assam Police and other agencies have intensified their efforts along the Indo-Bangladesh border, which spans over 4,000 kilometers and is often exploited for illegal activities such as smuggling, infiltration, and human trafficking.

The Assam Police reiterated their commitment to safeguarding national security. In a statement, they emphasized that secure borders are essential for regional stability and the protection of local communities. They also noted that constant vigilance and inter-agency coordination have significantly strengthened security measures in the region.

While the operation drew widespread praise from citizens and officials, some expressed concerns over recurring infiltration attempts. Many called for stricter actions, including harsher punishments for those attempting illegal crossings. A netizen commented, “They will come back again unless they are rigorously punished and pushed back.”

Others highlighted broader socio-political issues, including the treatment of Hindus in Bangladesh, which some believe compels people to attempt illegal crossings.

This operation showcases the Assam Police’s dedication to border security and highlights the importance of sustained efforts to combat infiltration and other illegal activities.
