Vigilant cop foils robbery near Red Fort, nabs armed criminal after dramatic chase

NEW DELHI: In an exemplary act of courage and vigilance, Head Constable (HC) Manish from PS Kotwali apprehended an armed robber near Red Fort following a dramatic foot chase. The incident, caught on CCTV, underscores the relentless efforts of the Delhi Police in tackling street crimes and ensuring public safety.

 

According to Raja Banthia, DCP North, the incident unfolded around 9:30 AM at the Angoori Bagh Bus Stand. Prem Kumar Parsad, a labourer from Bihar, was being targeted by a robber when HC Manish, who was on routine patrol, noticed the crime in progress. Acting promptly, he intervened, causing the robber to flee the scene.

The chase began as the suspect, later identified as Aarif, ran across Subash Marg toward Old Lajpat Rai Market. Refusing to let him escape, HC Manish pursued him on foot. The chase culminated near Metro Gate No. 2, where Aarif attempted to resist arrest by attacking the officer with a button-actuated knife.

 

Despite the assault, HC Manish demonstrated remarkable composure and bravery, engaging in a scuffle with the criminal. With assistance from local bystanders, he successfully overpowered Aarif and took him into custody.

Upon searching Aarif, officers recovered the stolen mobile phone and the knife used in the attack. Preliminary investigations revealed that Aarif, a resident of Shastri Park, has a criminal history with five prior cases registered against him.

 

A case has been filed, and Aarif has been formally arrested. “The prompt and fearless action of HC Manish not only prevented a robbery but also ensured the swift apprehension of a habitual offender,” said DCP Banthia. This incident highlights the critical role played by vigilant police officers in curbing crime and maintaining peace, further reinforcing public trust in law enforcement agencies.
