Upasna Mohapatra is one of them. BJP’s Mohapatra is the youngest MLA in the new Odisha Assembly. She won the Brahmagiri Assembly seat. The 26-year-old “content creator”, is the daughter of late Congress strongman Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra, reports showed.
Upasana won by defeating BJD’s Umakanta Samantaray with a margin of 9,830 votes in the coastal seat under Puri parliamentary constituency.
Talking to the media, BJP Brahmagiri MLA on June 10, expressed gratitude towards the people of her constituency for electing her as the youngest MLA in the state. She also expressed her desire to develop her constituency and take it to new heights. “I want to express my gratitude to the people of my constituency who gave me their blessings and allowed me to be their voice and represent them as the youngest MLA in the state. I want to develop my constituency and take it to new heights.”
When asked about the development works she would like to undertake for her constituency, Mohapatra said, “Even in the year 2024, we are deprived of basic fundamental rights like clean drinking water. We are lagging in infrastructure development. In the medical sector, we don’t have sufficient doctors, and even in our schools, we have a shortage of teachers.”
The Naveen Patnaik era in Odisha officially came to an end when Biju Janata Dal (BJD) suffered defeat from BJP in the Assembly polls. Naveen Patnaik himself lost to the BJP in the Kantabanji seat, as the saffron party secured victory in 78 out of the state’s 147 Assembly segments.
The recent assembly election in Odisha was conducted concurrently with the Lok Sabha elections. BJP won 20 seats in the Lok Sabha elections as well. However, Congress managed to win only one seat.
