NEW DELHI: A crucial meeting of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) took place at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in Delhi on Wednesday, with senior leaders from across the coalition in attendance.

This meeting followed the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha by President Droupadi Murmu earlier in the day, based on the Union Cabinet’s advice.

Key figures present included BJP president JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and leaders from allied parties such as Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo N Chandrababu Naidu, Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde, Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy, Janasena Party chief Pawan Kalyan, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan, and Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction) leader Praful Patel.

The meeting served as a platform for NDA allies to express their support for Modi’s leadership. They lauded the PM’s role in enhancing India’s pride on the global stage.

NDA partners praised Modi for his clear vision of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) and his efforts in nation-building. Leaders also commended Modi’s efforts towards poverty eradication and pledged to continue their collective work.

NDA holds crucial meeting after Lok Sabha Elections result

PM Modi called it a historic mandate, noting that this is the first time in 60 years that a third consecutive government has been elected in India. All leaders congratulated PM Modi for his leadership and the strides the nation has made under him. They appreciated his hard work and efforts in nation-building.

In his address, PM Modi reflected on the historic mandate received, stating, “This is a historic mandate for the third consecutive government, something last seen in India 60 years ago.” He emphasised the collective achievement of the NDA in fostering national pride and development.4

Earlier today, PM Modi had tendered his resignation along with his Council of Ministers to President Murmu. The President accepted the resignation and requested that they continue until the new government takes office. According to sources, PM Modi is expected to take the oath for his third term on June 9 at 6 pm as per the sources.

The recent general elections saw the BJP winning 240 seats, falling 32 seats short of the majority mark of 272, necessitating reliance on allies to form the government. This is a notable decrease from their previous victories, where they secured 303 seats in 2019 and 282 in 2014.

Meanwhile, the opposition coalition, INDIA bloc, convened a meeting in Delhi on Wednesday evening. INC president Mallikarjun Kharge stated that the alliance leaders would discuss the election results and future strategies.

As the political landscape adjusts post-election, the participation of significant allies like Naidu and Nitish Kumar in the NDA meeting underscores their crucial role in the formation of the next government.
