In Porbandar youth, fruitsellers find Gandhi’s real heir…Modi or Rahul

PORBANDAR: The next stop of The New Indian passing through the different corners of Gujarat reaches the beautiful city of Porbandar which is the birthplace of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi. The New Indian team tries to understand the mood of locals on the leader who will be the best to carry the legacy and ideology of Mahatma Gandhi in the present day.

Nagarjun Parmar, a young resident of Porbandar acknowledges the efforts of leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi in propagating Gandhi’s principles, he told the New Indian, “Modiji has been active and in touch with the masses, but we cannot overlook Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, there must be something in him to stand against Modi.”

Premila Ben feels the person who works the most for the public should win, she said, “Everything is good, Modi will win, we are with Narendra Modi, he brought development.”

The streets of Porbandar underscored their trust in Modi, Anjali Alka recounts Modi’s visits, while local vendors like Yash Babu, a fruit seller and Manraj, a spice seller express optimism in BJP’s ability to uphold Gandhi’s ideals. Sailesh Bhai and Dayabhai, also voiced similar sentiments, emphasising BJP’s capacity to carry forward Gandhi’s legacy.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rameshbhai Lavjibhai Dhaduk of the BJP emerged victorious against Lalit Vasoya of the INC. This time Mansukh Mandaviya, union health minister is the BJP candidate while, Vasoya will again stand from Congress.
