New Delhi: Congress spokesperson Gourav Vallabh has announced his resignation from the party, expressing discomfort with its current trajectory. In a statement posted on social media, Vallabh highlighted his unease with the partyโ€™s perceived lack of direction and ideological stance.

In a statement shared on X, Vallabh expressed his dissatisfaction with the partyโ€™s current trajectory, particularly its inability to raise what he referred to as โ€œanti-Sanatan slogansโ€ and its persistent criticism of the countryโ€™s wealth creators. โ€œI do not feel comfortable with the directionless way in which the Congress party is moving forward today. I can neither raise anti-Sanatana slogans nor abuse the wealth creators of the country. Therefore, I resign from all posts and primary membership of the Congress party,โ€ Vallabh wrote. He made his poll debut in 2019 from Jharkhandโ€™s Jamshedpur East, where he bagged over 18,000 and ended up in third spot behind then-sitting chief minister Raghubar Das and Saryu Roy.

Vallabh also shared a two-page resignation letter addressed to party president Mallikarjun Kharge, expressing his sentiments and reasons for stepping down. โ€œI am feeling emotional. My heart is heavy. Thereโ€™s a lot I wish to express, write, and share. However, my principles forbid me from uttering anything that might cause harm to others. Nevertheless, today, I am presenting my thoughts to you because I firmly believe that concealing the truth is also an offence, and I refuse to be involved in it,โ€ he wrote in the letter.

Vallabh, who contested the Rajasthan assembly election from the Udaipur constituency in 2023, cited discrepancies in the partyโ€™s approach towards various issues, including the caste-based census and its stance on Hindu society. Vallabh lamented the partyโ€™s disconnect with the ground reality and its failure to understand the aspirations of the โ€œNew India.โ€ โ€œThe party is neither coming into power nor able to play a strong role as an opposition. This disappoints a worker like me. Bridging the gap between senior leaders and grassroots workers is very difficult, which is essential politically,โ€ he remarked.

โ€œThese days the party is moving in the wrong direction. On one hand, we talk about the caste-based census and on the other hand, the party seems to oppose the entire Hindu society. This style of working gives a misleading message to the public that the party is a supporter of a particular religion only. This is against the basic principles of Congress,โ€ he remarked.

Vallabhโ€™s resignation comes amidst a series of political upheavals, including boxer Vijender Singhโ€™s defection to the BJP, adding to the challenges faced by the Congress party ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. As the political landscape continues to evolve, Vallabhโ€™s departure underscores the complexities within the Congress party.
