Official sources informed The New Indian that additional CAPFs will be stationed across the entire Kashmir valley and the adjacent border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the Jammu region.
SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir is gearing up to ensure the smooth conduct of Parliamentary elections in the Union Territory, with plans to deploy numerous police units from various battalions. These elections, scheduled to take place in five phases starting April 19, will also witness the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) following directives from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Official sources informed The New Indian that additional CAPFs will be stationed across the entire Kashmir valley and the adjacent border districts of Rajouri and Poonch in the Jammu region. Their responsibilities will include conducting sanitization operations and bolstering the anti-terrorism grid to prevent any potential terrorist activities that could disrupt the political environment in the Union Territory before or during the Lok Sabha elections.

It was further stated that extra CAPFs will begin arriving in Jammu and Kashmir by the end of the month for early deployment in high-risk zones. Additionally, the units stationed in the Parliamentary constituencies conducting elections in the initial phase will be reassigned to the districts going to polls in subsequent phases, with a gap of at least a week between each phase.
A senior official of the J&K administration emphasized that the intervals between election phases provide ample time to transfer the paramilitary forces from one constituency to another. In addition to rotation, the CAPF units will be deployed ahead of time in each Lok Sabha seat for sanitization operations to deter terrorist activities.

Furthermore, it was stated that J&K Police will mobilize its reserved battalions of JKAP and IRP for election duties, except those posted on security-related duties for anti-terrorism operations.
The Election Commission of India has already approved 635 companies of paramilitary forces in Jammu and Kashmir and 57 in Ladakh to facilitate the smooth conduct of polls. Out of the 635 paramilitary companies allocated to Jammu and Kashmir, 36 will be designated for Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs)/Strong Rooms security and counting centre logistics.
