NEW DELHI: On Wednesday morning, the Yamuna Expressway became the site of a grave collision involving multiple vehicles, due to dense fog that shrouded the Delhi-NCR, reducing visibility to perilous levels.

According to reports, numerous individuals have sustained multiple injuries in the pile-up, but Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Greater Noida, Ashok Kumar, has stated that no fatalities have been reported thus far.

An exact number has still not been reached regarding the number of injured.

Revealing the chronology of events, Ravi Kumar, said that the vehicle right ahead of him had suddenly applied his brake which made the entire lane follow a domino effect, resulting in the thick fog contributing to the chain of collisions.

The severe fog crisis gripping Delhi has added complexity to the situation, with visibility plummeting to near-zero or under 50 meters in many areas.

The heavy fog has also led to numerous trains being cancelled while also disrupting flight operations in the national capital. Presently, Delhi Airport has also issued an advisory for all morning travellers.

Despite the challenging circumstances, there is a glimmer of relief as traffic movement on the expressway has resumed after the removal of most damaged vehicles.

Authorities from both law enforcement and emergency services have actively engaged themselves in arranging safety for the afflicted.
