JAIPUR: A nine-year-old Dalit child was beaten up by his school teacher for touching the pot of water in a school in Surana village in Rajasthan’s Jalore district. His condition turned critical and he died on Saturday.

A case of SC-ST Act has been registered against the teacher and he has been arrested, the Jalore police said.

The child, Indra Meghwal, was undergoing treatment in Ahmedabad for the last 24 days. Earlier, the treatment was being carried out in Udaipur.

The father of the child alleged that on July 20, his son, who was studying in the third grade, touched the pot of water. After this, teacher Chhail Singh beat her up so severely that his condition became serious.

The father claimed that his son felt thirsty around 10.30 in the morning on July 20. He drank water from the pot kept in the school but he did not know that it was kept for the teachers of the school. Chhail Singh, the teacher, saw Indra drinking from the pot and beat him up brutally.

He was thrashed so badly that the boy received internal injuries to his right eye and ear. Chail Singh also allegedly used casteist remarks. After being beaten up, Indra’s health started deteriorating, so he was taken to Jalore District Hospital. From there, he was referred to Udaipur the same day. When his health did not improve, after a few days, he was taken to Ahmedabad. He died during treatment on Saturday.
