NEW DELHI: The Delhi Assembly elections concluded today with a voter turnout of 57.7% recorded by 5 PM. According to the Election Commission of India, voting officially ended at 6 PM, but voters already in line were allowed to cast their ballots by that time.
The election day was marked by dramatic scenes, particularly in Jangpura, where supporters of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Manish Sisodia faced mockery. Crowds chanted โเคเฅเคฐ เคนเฅ- เคเฅเคฐ เคนเฅโ (He is a thief) in front of Sisodia, while others raised slogans of โเคฎเฅเคฆเฅ-เคฎเฅเคฆเฅโ to counter his presence. The incident highlighted the intense political atmosphere in the capital.
According to the latest Satta Bazaar (betting market) survey, the AAP is projected to win 32 to 35 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also expected to secure a similar range of 32 to 35 seats. The Congress, however, is predicted to draw a blank, failing to secure even a single seat. These projections suggest a potential hung assembly, with neither AAP nor BJP achieving a clear majority.
The final results, to be announced on February 8, will determine the formation of the next government in Delhi. Political analysts closely watch the developments, as a hung assembly could lead to intense negotiations and possible alliances in the coming days.
